Visceral Manipulation

Jun 5, 2015 | Uncategorized

Viscera relates to the organs of the body, such as stomach, kidneys, liver and intestines. Visceral manipulation is a gentle manual therapy aiding to release restrictions, scar tissue or adhesions that cause pain and dysfunction.

Strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness, posture or injury. Tension patterns form through the fascial network within the body, creating a cascade of effects far from their sources for which the body will have to compensate.

This creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body must move around, and this chronic irritation gives way to functional and structural problems. Visceral manipulation is aiming to evaluate the source of the problem.

The therapist feels for the restriction in movement of the viscera as well as restrictive patterns throughout the body and then applies the tech-niques to release the tension. Phone 03 9716 2250 to book a session with one of our physiotherapists.
