UNDERSTANDING CONCUSSIONS

A concussion is a brain injury caused by acceleration or deceleration of the brain following a significant impact. This can result in temporary deficits in brain function, affecting cognition, balance, memory, concentration, and overall well-being. Common symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, blurred vision, sensitivity to light and noise, and emotional disturbances.

WHAT WE OFFER

PRE-SEASON BASELINE TESTING

  • Pre-season Baseline testing is a comprehensive series of physical and cognitive tests that provide a pre-injury overview of healthy brain function. This includes assessments of balance, reaction time, memory, visual tracking speed, and a range of other brain functions, creating a detailed map of your brain’s healthy function.
  • In the event of a concussion, these pre-injury results help us identify the specific deficits and their extent, guiding our treatment strategy and determining when your brain has fully recovered for a safe return to sport.
  • It’s crucial to note that symptom resolution is not a reliable indicator of brain recovery. The Complete Concussions protocol uniquely combines the best evidence-based tools to provide the most comprehensive brain map available, minimising the risk of severe brain injury from premature return to activity.

CONCUSSION TREATMENT: TAILORED TREATMENT PLANS FOR OPTIMAL RECOVERY, EMPHASISING EARLY INTERVENTION, OUR TREATMENT STRATEGIES INCLUDE:

  • Symptom Management: Techniques to manage and alleviate symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and fatigue.
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation: Exercises to improve balance and reduce dizziness.
  • Cognitive Rehabilitation: Strategies to enhance cognitive function and memory.
  • Exertional Testing with Sub-Symptom Threshold Exercise Programs: Safe assessment of physical exertion capabilities to guide return-to-sport decisions, combined with customised exercise plans designed to manage and reduce persistent symptoms without exacerbating them.
  • Gradual Return-to-Activity Protocols: Structured plans to safely return to sport, school, or work.
