It can be daunting seeing a Physiotherapist for the first time. Perhaps you are in a great deal of pain from an acute injury and are worried about the diagnosis. Maybe you have had the problem for years and years and have tried everything but are sick of time-wasters and false promises.
At Whittlesea Physiotherapy, our experienced and highly skilled Physiotherapists will put your concerns at ease. Initially, we will take a detailed history of your condition. This might include asking about how long you have had the issue, going through in detail the way you first injured the area and how severe and persistent the pain is. We will also ask why you have come to Whittlesea Physiotherapy and what your goals for the treatment are.
Once we have a detailed history, we will move onto a physical examination. This might include checking your range of motion of the affected area, testing your strength or testing your functional capabilities. Sometimes it will include special testing aimed at specific structures to see if they are contributing to the issue. Often, we will need to assess more than one area to pinpoint the problem. This is vitally important so that we can work out your diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan.
Getting a diagnosis for your condition is extremely important. We will use your diagnosis, along with your treatment goals to tailor an individual treatment plan. Sometimes, it can be hard to determine a firm diagnosis in the first session. There can be many different factors involved and we can’t always do all the testing we want due to pain levels. Occasionally, further imaging will be required. But a thorough assessment should at the very least narrow the possible issues down to a couple of options.
During your first consultation, you will receive a treatment plan. This will outline what we recommend in terms of treatment, exercises you can do at home and the prognosis of your condition. Rehabilitation can be a slow process, and it isn’t always a smooth one. But if we have a clear, concise plan to work with, it can take a lot of the worry away.
So what are you waiting for? Book in with our highly skilled Physiotherapists and start on the road to recovery.
