At any one time, approximately 15% of Australians obtain pain relief medication for headache symptom management. Headaches is a broad term for pain in any region of the brain that an individual may experience. Consequently, there are different types and causes to headaches; common subtypes are stress/ tension headaches and migraines.
Headache symptoms can include but not limited to: sharp pain, throbbing pain and dull ache. Duration of symptoms can last from less than an hour, up to several days.
Headaches are often the result of multiple factors. Most common factors being lifestyle related are: diet, stress, limited exercise and muscle tension. Non- lifestyle factors being: posture, neck/ spine, arthritis, medications, eye problems, blood pressure, noise and/or dehydration.

- Education regarding back care and posture
- Desk/ job ergonomics
- Soft tissue massage
- Joint mobilisation
- Dry needling
- Home exercise program (combination of strength and stretch exercises)
- Pilates / group exercise
