Lower back pain is a common global health condition that is a primary contributor to disability as it can affect individual’s performance at work and daily activities. Up to 85% of the population can experience lower back pain at some period in their lifetime. People of all ages can experi- ence lower back pain, however may have different factors contributing to their presentation.

Lower back pain is a collective term for pain located around the lower por- tion of the spine relating to either one or more structures being: bones, joints, connective tissue, muscles and nerves. Factors which may cause or lead to symptoms include: posture associated injuries, osteo arthritis and disc disease. Factors which have the potential to increase risk of develop- ing back pain are: age, weight, physical fitness and occupation. Important to be aware, some risk factors can be modified. Your physiotherapist can identify and develop individual modifications to suit your daily activities.

Physiotherapy Treatment can involve a combination of the following:

  • Education regarding your individual back pain
  • Education regarding back care and activity modification to assist your participation in activities
  • Education regarding posture and postural training
  • Gaitscan
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Dry needling
  • Joint mobility
  • Core strength training
  • Home exercise program
  • Clinical Pilates

Often treatment for lower back pain is directed at symptoms solely, however our therapists focus is on both symptom relief and long-term management to support your ongoing symptom relief and enable you to continue with your day.
