IS THIS RETREAT FOR YOU?
This retreat is designed for women in midlife, particularly those navigating perimenopause or menopause who are ready for a meaningful physical challenge alongside genuine rest, nourishment, and connection.
If you are looking for a goal that feels big but supported, a weekend that moves your body and restores your spirit, and a small group of like-minded women who just get it then this is that weekend.
ABOUT THIS RETREAT
This is a premium three-day long weekend that blends movement and achievement with deep rest and recovery, set against one of Victoria’s most beautiful coastlines.
The Surf Coast Walk & Yoga Retreat is built around the iconic 44.2km Surf Coast Walk, with the flexibility to approach it in whatever way works best for you, whether that means completing the full distance over three days, choosing a shorter option each day, or swapping a walking day for more time in the magnesium pool, the sauna, or the zen garden at Summerhouse. You decide what feels right, and you can make that call before the retreat, or even on the day.
Woven through the weekend are yin and restorative yoga and meditation sessions, genuinely nourishing food, and unhurried space to rest, reflect, and connect with other women at a similar stage of life.
All logistics are taken care of. You carry only a light day pack. Sam Heyfron, 30+ year experienced physiotherapist, yoga and breathwork instructor, with a special interest in holistic care for women in perimenopause and menopause will guide you through every step.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
The Walk — Your Way
The Surf Coast Walk covers 44.2km across three days of stunning coastal scenery. You can approach it in whatever way suits you:
- Walk the full distance: all 44.2km over three days, with physio guidance and support from Sam
- Choose your distance each day: shorter options are available and can be decided before or even on the morning, depending on how you feel
- Take a rest day: swap a walking day for more time at Summerhouse enjoying the magnesium pool, sauna, zen garden, or simply the view
There is no pressure to complete every kilometre. The goal is that you finish the weekend feeling proud, well, and genuinely restored, whatever shape that takes for you.
You will carry only a light day pack. All logistics, transfers, and route planning are taken care of.
Yin & Restorative Yoga and Meditation
Each day includes yin or restorative yoga and meditation sessions led by Samantha Heyfron, Principal Physiotherapist and Yoga & Breathwork Instructor, with a special interest in holistic care for women in midlife.
These practices are chosen for good reason, yin and restorative yoga work gently and deeply, supporting the body’s recovery, calming the nervous system, and creating the kind of stillness that is rarely available in everyday life. They are well suited to the physical and hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause.
The Accommodation — Summer house Retreat
You’ll stay at Summer House Retreat on the Surf Coast, which is luxurious, boutique, and genuinely beautiful.
Wellness amenities include:
- Magnesium pool
- Sauna
- Zen garden
- Stunning Surf Coast surroundings
The more flexible you are with your walking distance, the more time you have to simply be here, resting, soaking, reading, or sitting in the quiet.
Nourishing Food
All meals and snacks are created by chef and nutritionist Lorraine Anastasio from A’ Grazen Thyme — thoughtfully designed to support your energy, walking performance, and recovery throughout the weekend.
Enjoy local Surf Coast wines with dinner (optional).
Time for Yourself and for Connection
This retreat is small by design. There will be space to simply be, to journal, rest, sit with the ocean, and have the kind of unhurried conversations that are hard to find when life is busy.
Women who come to this retreat often say that the connection they find with others at the same stage of life is as meaningful as the walk itself. There is something genuinely restorative about being with people who understand where you are.
Optional Extras
- Massage is available to add during the retreat (additional cost, subject to availability)
- About Time Bathhouse, Torquay — an optional visit at the end of the weekend for the ultimate wind-down (additional cost)
TRAINING SUPPORT SO YOU FEEL READY
A comprehensive training guide is provided once you are confirmed. You can prepare in whatever way suits you:
- Self-guided: use our training guide and resources at your own pace
- In-clinic support: come in for more structured preparation from our team at Whittlesea Physiotherapy & Clinical Pilates
- Work with your own physio or exercise physiologist: if you are not local, we will provide clear information to share with your practitioner so you are well prepared
You do not need to be highly fit to attend. You need to be willing to prepare, and we will help you do that.
A SUPPORTIVE APPROACH
Sam knows this trail and understands how bodies (particularly women’s bodies in midlife) respond to sustained movement, hormonal shifts, and the demands of a multi-day walk.
If you need to adjust a day’s distance, take a gentler option, or choose rest over kilometres, that decision will always be made with care and without pressure. The aim is for you to finish the weekend feeling genuinely well with whatever route gets you there.
